I have a love-hate relationship with the Breakfast Club

So, the 1985 movie the Breakfast Club is pretty much regarded as a much-watch movie from its time. And I have no problem with that, I really do think it’s a great movie overall. My one big problem with it is how Allison ends up in the final few scenes. She goes from being this alt-dressing, basket case that has odd and sometimes disgusting habits, to being a femme stereotype with a pink ruffled shirt and a skirt. I don’t have a problem with her dressing this way but I think in the context of the movie along with the rest of her character it really takes the whole point away. Her big memorable moment, at least for me, was when the five teens were sitting on the floor talking about why they were in detention and about their personal lives and she drops this line "It's kind of a double edged sword, isn't it? ... Well, if you say you haven't, you're a prude. If you say you have you're a slut. It's a trap. You want to but you can't, and when you do you wish you didn't, right?". When I first watched this movie and I heard that line I’m pretty sure I stoped breathing for a second. Or maybe I breathed too much? I’m not sure. But it hit a spot in me that really explained what I was feeling. The breakfast club did it before Barbie did and it did it much better. This quote said “if you’re going to be judged no matter what you do and choose to do, then why shouldn’t you do what you want? Be who you want? Don’t suck up just because a man wants you to be appealing to them.” BUT THEN 10 minutes later after the world greatest dance she goes and throws that all out the window! She’s not going to be her original, wonderful self, that held the same beliefs that lots of young girls watching this movie might have shared! NO! Why would you go and do a thing like that!?!? Instead she completely changes her character to suit the wants of a man and copies Claire’s entire look! One of the biggest things in this movie was that at one point or another you get to see yourself on screen. But now that there’s two of the same people on screen, people (especially girls because boys have John) that don’t fit the status quo can’t see themselves on that screen because it was taken away so that an audience could see two teens have a cliché happily ever after at t
